Güneş Aşık, Ph.D.

Economist, Research Associate

Dr Güneş A. Aşık is an Assistant Professor of Economics and a labour economist specializing in applied microeconomics, impact evaluation, and labour market policy analysis. Her research examines how labour markets respond to policy interventions, economic shocks, and structural change, with a particular focus on employment dynamics, labour market institutions, and regional disparities. Her work is characterized by rigorous empirical analysis and a strong focus on translating complex evidence into policy-relevant insights.

She has extensive experience working at the interface of research and policy through advisory and consultancy roles with international organizations, public institutions, and research centres. Her professional work includes impact evaluations of employment subsidies and self-employment programmes, analysis of labour market outcomes for youth and women, assessments of skills development and human capital systems, and contributions to national and regional economic monitoring. She has also worked on labour market implications of technological change, including artificial intelligence and digitalization, examining how these developments affect job creation, skills demand, and employment quality.

A central strand of her recent work focuses explicitly on green jobs and green employment. She has conducted analytical research on identifying and classifying green job titles, mapping skills transitions associated with the green transition, and assessing employment effects in sectors undergoing energy- and climate-related transformation. Her contributions include studies on renewable energy value chains, just transition pathways in coal-dependent regions, and the labour market impacts of climate and environmental policies. This body of work provides a strong empirical basis for analysing how green transitions reshape labour demand and how policies can support inclusive and sustainable employment growth.

Dr Aşık received her PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She holds an MA in International Development (MPA-ID) from Harvard University and a BSc in Economics from Hacettepe University.
