Amalee McCoy, Ph.D.

Child Protection Expert, Research Associate

Dr. Amalee McCoy is a Child Protection Specialist with over 20 years of expertise in child protection, child and family welfare, and child rights. She currently serves as a Project lead for the Peace Culture Foundation in Thailand, where she focuses on scaling up evidence-based parenting interventions for preventing child maltreatment and promoting healthy child development. Previously, Amalee held the position of Child Protection Specialist at the UNICEF Regional Office for East Asia and the Pacific, providing technical assistance in policy and programme development for regional projects and 13 UNICEF Country Offices.  Her extensive experience spans missions and technical support to teams and initiatives across Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Fiji, Mongolia, China, Samoa, Pakistan, and Nepal. Her expertise lies in parenting programs, preventive ECD interventions, child protection, and family welfare.


Dr. Amalee McCoy obtained her PhD from the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford in 2020. She holds a strong academic background, including an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation from the University of Oxford, an MA in Southeast Asian Studies from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and an MA in Child and Adolescent Welfare from Charles Sturt University.
