Position: Project Officer (full-time)
Location: Turkey (home-based, with flexibility regarding travel)

1. Organisation Background 

 

Development Analytics provides evidence-based research on social policy and development programmes. We specialise in large-scale data analysis and the application of statistical and econometric techniques to development issues. Our team also integrates insights from qualitative data analysis through mixed methods research. Our clients and partners range from multilateral development banks, UN organisations and government ministries to local non-profit organisations developing community-driven programmes. We provide our clients with research and tools to (i) understand and diagnose social problems, (ii) devise programs to tackle these issues and (iii) measure and rigorously evaluate their results.


2. Job Description/ Responsibilities

 

We are seeking to hire a Project Officer to support our project development activities and research projects full-time. The project officer is expected to get involved in research and evaluation projects of Development Analytics and provide support mainly in qualitative research activities and organisation and management of fieldwork in addition to project development tasks. The project officer will participate in the full range of our project portfolio
including: (1) Poverty, Social Protection, and Humanitarian Aid, (2) Skills and Employment, (3) Children’s Well-Being and Development, and (4) Gender &
Women's Empowerment. This position is home-based but requires flexibility regarding travel.   

 

3. Duties & Key Responsibilities


The following duties will be part of the Analyst’s main responsibilities:

Project Development and Support 

  • Actively seek opportunities for new business development across different thematic areas of research in poverty, health, education, labour, and social protection. 

  • Prepare grant and project proposals for potential projects.

  • Assist research associates with background research, literature reviews and writing up of specific pieces in reports.

  • Support implementation of individual projects to help ensure timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables.

 

Research support

  • Participating and collaborating on all aspects related to research development and implementation; namely all phases from initiating study design and survey questionnaire/ interview guidelines development to data collection, analysis and dissemination of findings.

  • Collecting, coding, analysing, and reporting qualitative data (through literature and document reviews, key informant interviews and/or focus group discussion), developing skills in NVIVO, and writing up and summarising research findings.

  • Providing support to research associates in carrying out background research, preparation of project deliverables including PPTs, and reports, writing specific pieces in reports.
     

Fieldwork support (both online and on the ground)

  • Organising and coordinating the field activities.

  • Managing fieldwork (related to conducting key informant interviews and/or focus groups discussions, and/or survey collection), including planning, logistics, hiring or training support staff, supervising and monitoring daily data collection activities, and providing support to the senior consultants during the interviews, taking notes during the interviews and writing up interview notes and field reports.
     

4. Qualifications, Experience & Competencies


Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • A master’s degree or higher in social policy, sociology, anthropology, economics, early childhood education and care or early childhood development, social work, or another related field. 

  • Experience in grant proposal preparation and expert network management is an asset.

  • High level of proficiency in English and Turkish is required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability and experience in conducting in-depth interviews and focus group discussions is an asset.

  • Proficiency in using qualitative data analysis software such as NVIVO is desirable.

  • Proven ability to assist in writing research proposals and research reports.

  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office tools.

  • The right candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
